Earth Day: April 22, 2020

“Overhead, the fine blue sky is now streaked with half a dozen contrails, sad evidence of our misplaced search for wonderment.”

Blue skies at sunset, where once on a lazy summer day, with some excitement, we counted eighteen plumes of contrails from jets crossing the farm overhead. Then today, the sun drops below the horizon and not a single stream mars the heavens. It offers a glimmer of a saner world traversed at a more thoughtful pace, where we can cross a trail from the here to there with out even disturbing the brush.

So, finally, in the midst of this fear and loss, a sign above of what we have to gain, were we only to have the courage to grasp it.

The annual Earth Day post. We will see if Jody and Michelle at animasoul, Clem at Gulliver’s Pulse, Ruben at Small and Delcious Life, and Chris at Small Farm Futures take up the challenge this year.

  1. I will pass on the challenge. It’s been a crazy spring for my business. I didn’t bring back my delivery driver because he is 76 and I didn’t want him potentially exposed to any virus. So I’m talking calls, setting up deliveries, and then driving the truck. And with everyone staying at home my orders for deliveries have shot up 300%. I wasn’t ready to go from winter mode at home all day to working 12 hour days (driving a truck for 6 of them). I am however, enjoying the beautiful weather we’re currently enjoying in Indiana!
    Happy Earth Day

  2. I looked up today whilst planting potatoes and noticed the direct sunlight was white.
If this continues, small children will start asking for white crayons to draw its rays.
