Blame it on the rain, the excess food or that I’m struggling to make sense of the Paul Kingsnorth novel, The Wake, written in an invented language. But I can’t seem to muster the energy for a blog post today. So I’ll leave you with a video of my neighbor running our Norwood sawmill yesterday. He helped me cut and stack about 300 board feet of oak lumber.

Nice looking timber, Brian. I have bandsaw envy. Would like one of the Norwood mills but they’re expensive in Australia.
How do you manage your logs from coupe to saw? Do you use a tractor with front-end loader?
David,
The cost of the Norwood was pretty reasonable. It is a smaller model. But then again I have no idea what they sell for down in Australia. We use the tractor to skid the larger logs down to the mill. The draft horse is used to skid smaller firewood logs. And I use a boom pole on the back of the tractor to raise it up to the cutting deck. The log we were cutting in the video was about the largest yet. And it was close to the maximum of about 26 inches.
Cheers,
Brian
